Autumnwatch at St Anthony’s

The girls at St. Anthony’s have returned to school with a renewed eagerness for learning, a sense of anticipation for the term ahead and an enthusiasm and yearning for the outdoors.

Following many months of limited outdoor activity and a cancellation of all team sports the girls have responded very positively to our increased sports provision on the timetable, extended playtime to support with renewal of friendships and child-initiated activities.

Regular forays to Golders Hill Park, adjacent to St. Anthony’s has been met with unanimous approval from the girls, where the girls’ curiosity and awareness of seasonal change has been reignited. Our Reception and Year 1 girls enjoy weekly Forest School activities that are child-centred, explorative and encourage risk taking. Through hands on learning in a natural setting, the girls develop confidence and a strong sense of self.

The girls have recognised that the landscape is changing, that leaves are taking on their autumn colours and that if they look up into the tree canopy, they will already see the first leaves beginning to turn.

The golden afternoon rays of sunshine which the girls have basked in during these recent weeks are a reminder that the autumn equinox is upon us with the shortening days, the lengthening evenings being a clue to the approach of a more dramatic seasonal change…
