This week, as part of our Multi-Faith festivals celebration, Year 3 and Reception received a visit from Selina Gellert, mother of our singing and piano teacher Miri. Selina and Miri told us all about the special Jewish festival of light Chanukah, which begins this year on the evening of December 24th.
The girls listened to the Chanukah story, learning about the re-dedication of the temple in Jerusalem by lighting the oil lamp which miraculously stayed lit for eight days. Selina and Miri showed us the menorah – a special type of candle holder lit by Jewish people on each day of the festivals. We were also lucky enough to sample sufganiyot, delicious round doughnuts filled with jam which are eaten at Chanukah!
