On Wednesday, the girls embarked on their first whole school trip – and Reception’s first trip ever – to Oxford St’s Danceworks Studio. The girls attended a Fit to Dance workshop organised by Disney On Ice which celebrated movement, exercise and fitness through storytelling. The girls were split into two groups led by Disney On Ice performers, and choreographer and member of dance troupe Diversity Ashley Banjo. One group brought The Lion King to life costumed as an array of animal characters whilst another took on the story of The Little Mermaid complete with mermaid and aquatic accessories. The girls used a range of dance movements and acting techniques to tell each story in a unique and entertaining way! It was a pleasure to watch the girls come to life performing and all got an extra surprise with an appearance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Staff were delighted with the girls’ behaviour both at the workshop and on public transport after a busy afternoon, and workshop organisers even commented on what a polite, courteous and enthusiastic group they were! We hope to carry on using the scheme’s dance resources during on-site PE sessions this year.
