On Friday 27th January, St Anthony’s Girls were visited by the Fu family to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The Fu family graciously shared their family customs and traditions with our pupils. Chinese New Year’s celebration began on the 27th January, on New Year’s Eve, and will continue for approximately 2 weeks. Children learned about the Chinese Zodiac and created brightly coloured posters to celebrate the year of the rooster. Children enjoyed listening to the Chinese legend of ‘Nian’ the mythological beast who lives in the mountains or under the sea. Afterwards, children enjoyed delicious vegetable spring rolls while they learnt to say ‘Happy New Year’ in mandarin. The Fu family kindly included us in the Chinese tradition of receiving gifts for the New Year. Our girls thoroughly enjoyed our Chinese New Year’s celebrations. Thank you again to the Fu family for sharing your culture with the St Anthony’s girls.
